His full name – Rahul Sharad Dravid. With a strong technique he has been the backbone for the Indian cricket team. Beginning with the reputation of being a defensive player who should be confined to test cricket, he was droppped from ODIs as he was slow in making runs. Of late , however , Rahul Dravid has defied early perceptions to become the mainstay of the Indian batting line-up in the ODIs as well as in Tests. His nick name “The Wall” has now become the tribute for his consistency. With his technical batting proficiency and stylish strokes he has been one of the main pillars of Indian batting.
Dravid’s amazing run was no triumph of substance over style, though , for he has plenty of both. A classical strokeplayer who plays every shot in the book. He often outscores teammates like Tendulkar in the course of partnerships with them, and while his pulling and cover-driving is especially breathtaking. He is one of the few Indians who average more at aw
ay mathces than at home.He is one among the only three batsmen to hit Test centuries in four consecutive innings.
He was involved in two of the largest partnerships in ODIs with Sourav Ganguly and with Sachin Tendulkar and the only batsman to have been involved in two ODI partnerships exceeding 300 runs.He has the record of the Highest score by a wicketkeeper in a world cup. He was named one of the Wisden cricketers (Wisden group a british media company and is the main publisher of cricket in U.K) for the 1999 World Cup with two hundreds and highest aggregate. He was awarded the innaugural Player of the year award and the Test player of the year by the ICC. He is the first captain to lead India to a Test match victory against South Africa on South African soil.
Hmmmm it goes on as I keep on saying on Dravid (I am a big fan of him
)….. lets wish him and his teammates good success in England tour
PS0 : No cricticism on Dravid plzzz ……. of course you can boast him up
.
PS1: Bhanu heres the post ….
Nice post on the Cap raa,Yaa even i admire dravid raa amazing grit and technique but hes passing through a lean patch now i guess…..
PS Dravid is truely India’s wall but i feel hes not as good as a captain Ganguly was raa hope i have not offended u Continue Bloggin….
The reason why ppl think Ganguly was a better captain (although their records suggest that they are more or less on par) is because we remember him from the 2003 wc final , we remember him for that shirt removing-all baring show of joy in the Natwest Trophy final unlike Rahul who also may be aggressive in his tactics but doesnt show it.I like Dravid but thats coz I thought he was good looking once upon a time[:))].Nice post.Keep blogging.
PS:What a shame the way the test match ended.England deserved to win.Kevin Pieterson rocks!!Hes my hero!
Well my fav Dravid innings would be the match against Aussies, VVS Laxman and Dravid’s paternship helped India win the match and also the series. Truly this man has turned to be “The” Wall for Indian Cricket. And the master of cover drivers and square cuts. He plays them so elegantly.
@Namrata: Kevin Pieterson Rocks! Love watching this guy esplly when his is against the Aussies.
Didnt noe that u blog too.. Neways, u put things in perspective. Dravid’s undoubtedly the mainstay of the team. The best thing abt him is his fourth innings record, always bails India outta trouble
where have u copied this from ra ,, i had been thru this article somewhere (cant recollect) ,,, anyways whoever is after sachin only ……… keep it in mind !!!!
each person has his own style ..
dravid is simple .. thats his style ..
ganguly has the royal bengal blood …. that was seen when he removed his shirt and showed the victory in LORD’s .. no one else wud have had the balls to do that …
i feel ganguly wud be a better captian … a team needs a demanding person to be a caption .. not a soft person or someother kind .. captian shud be the person who shows the path … and ganguly as many people know … is a person who fears for none .. and ofcourse team mates listen to him very well …
ps : i like both of them … just sharing info .. no hard feeling on anyone (srp nor the people who commented
)
quiet a fan of Mr.Dependable…good…wat do u think man…was quitting captaincy a really good decison…u got to answer this from 2 sides…from the team’s and his personal point of view
